Your entire port day strategy changes based on whether you dock at Punta Langosta (downtown), International Pier, or Puerta Maya (both south of town). Check with your cruise line.

Pay in Pesos, Save 10–15%
USD is accepted everywhere, but the exchange rate applied by taxis and shops is usually worse than the bank rate. Get pesos from an ATM downtown (avoid airport ATMs) for better prices.

Many taxis, small restaurants, and beach vendors only accept cash. Credit cards are hit-or-miss outside major tourist spots. Bring US cash or pesos in small denominations.

You can also visit Xcaret, Xel-Ha, or Xplor parks on the mainland via organized excursions.
San Miguel is laid out on a simple grid. Streets running north-south are called “Calles” (even numbers north, odd south of Benito Juarez). Streets running east-west are “Avenidas” numbered in multiples of 5. Avenida Benito Juarez divides the city into Norte and Sur sections and is the main road to the east side of the island.
