Remote Island Location
Cozumel Mexico is located approx 12 miles from the Mainland on the eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula. The isolation is a natural barrier to crime with a single access point being the Ultramar Ferry. Its remote geographical location creates a tranquil escape from city life, preserving its natural beauty and relaxed ways of life.
If you spend a few days exploring the culture off the beaten path, you will quickly learn the community is just living simple lives. They value peace of mind and quality of life. They are concerned with keeping crime low just as much as you.

Friendly Locals
During my most recent stay (last year 2022) of 14 days I stayed in a very beautiful Air bnb called Wayuum Suites. It was located in the middle of the city about 4 roads off the main strip (Avenida Rafael Melgar). I used a scooter rental as my primary way of getting around.
Many times I got lost and needed suggestions. For me, the warmth and friendliness of the locals played a significant role in making me feel safe and inviting. Cozumel’s locals are known for their hospitality and eagerness to assist visitors. You’ll find that the locals are more than willing to offer guidance and recommendations, making your stay even more enjoyable.
Police Presence
Cozumel takes security seriously, evident from the presence of tourist police. From the airport to the ferry, to the small streets, the officers are specially trained to assist and protect visitors.
They are easy to spot in their uniforms and are always ready to lend a helping hand or provide guidance when you trying to find a place to eat safely. Knowing that dedicated tourist police are on hand provides peace of mind to travelers.
