Temperature: The “Coolest” Month of the Year
Don’t let the word “cool” fool you—this is still the Caribbean! January is statistically the coolest month in Cozumel, but for most travelers, it feels like perfect summer weather.
Daytime Highs: You can expect daily highs around 82°F (28°C). It is warm enough for the beach but not so hot that you’ll feel exhausted just walking around San Miguel which it can be around spring time.
Evening Lows: At night, temperatures can dip to around 68°F (20°C). It’s refreshing, but you might want a light layer for dinner by the ocean.
The “Nortes” Phenomenon
Cruise passengers should be prepared you can be a victim of this natural phenomenon. Sometimes in January, the island experiences “Nortes” which are winds blowing from the north. When this happens it gets cooler and the water near the cruise port get rough.
This can happen for a day or two, which means the cruise ships can’t safely dock and they will cancel the port call for that country.
